Tanzania Tribal & Wildlife Safari

On this unique safari we get to know closely three different tribal cultures in Tanzania. We spend full day with Maasai –herdsmen, Iraqw –farmers as well as Hadzabe –hunter/gatherers each. Our experienced local guide opens us doors which are not often allowed to travellers. We also visit four different wildlife parks, giving us more than ample wildlife experience.

Day 1

Depart on your flight to Tanzania.

Day 2

Arrival in Kilimanjaro Airport and transfer to Meru Simba Lodge, situated below Mt.Meru and opposite Africa’s highest mountain, Mt.Kilimanjaro.

Day 3

After breakfast we depart for Lake Manyara National Park. This nice park is located along lake-shores just under the western wall of the Great Rift Valley. Park has a wide variety of mammals, birds as well as different vegetation-zones. Lake has flamingos and hippos, if we are lucky we can see famous tree-climbing lions and numerous elephants. After picnic-lunch we climb out of the Valley to highlands above and comfortable Bougainvillea Lodge. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 4

We drive to Lake Eyasi where we will visit Hadzabe –people. Linguistically related to Bushmen of Southern Africa and ethnically one of Khoisan -people, Hadzabe are the last hunter-gatherers in East Africa. There are only about 1000 members in the tribe. Traditionally men hunt and women collect fruits, berries and tubers for living. They are people living in close union with the surrounding nature and largely disconnected from time –conception of modern times. Picnic-lunch and in the afternoon we return to Bougainvillea. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 5

Today we climb to Ngorongoro Crater and get on the way first glimpse of this magnificent caldera. Home to thousands of different large mammals like wildebeest, zebra, lion and hyena to mention a few. Also one of the few places where it is possible to see extremely rare Black Rhino. Lunch in the Crater and we return through the montane forests to our Lodge. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 6

We visit the local Iraqw –people, agriculturalists living in Crater Highlands. Linguistically part an Afro-Asian group called Cushites, this tribe is known for their music and we get to see some of the traditional methods of farming still in use here. In the afternoon good time to relax by the pool and enjoy the surrounding scenery. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 7

After breakfast we descend to Rift Valley and visit the famous Maasai. We visit a real community still very much practising their traditional nomadic lifestyle. Maasai are ethnically Nilotics and are well-known for their war-like past and decorative ornaments. They have maintained surprisingly well their identity and traditions. We will enjoy a traditional ceremony which is not usually granted for visitors. Before sunset we enter Tarangire National Park where we stay at Tarangire Safari Lodge. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 8

Early breakfast and departure for a game-drive in this park known for thousands of elephants and baobab-trees dotting its landscape. We may also meet the most efficient conservationist in Africa, Tsetse-fly. In the afternoon we return to the foothills of Mt.Meru and Meru Simba Lodge. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 9

On this last full day of our tour, we make a walking safari in Arusha National Park with an armed guide. Later we also visit Ngurdoto Crater and Momella Lakes by car. As the sun sets we can admire Mt. Kilimanjaro and remember experiences we have had. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
